About Profe Shrader

Hola,

Me llamo Profe Kim Shrader. I have been teaching Spanish for 29 years. My full-time job is teaching high school Spanish and Yearbook at Pecatonica High School. I also co-direct the Fall Play. I've been at Pecatonica for 26 years. I am also an adjunct professor at Rock Valley College Online. Several years ago, I enjoyed teaching Spanish online at Rockford Career College. In the Summer, I sometimes teach Whiz Kids community education classes like Spanish, tie dying and cake decorating. I spent my first year teaching at Jane Adams Junior High in Schaumburg and years two and three were at Rolling Meadows High School in the Chicago Suburbs.

I decided that suburb living was just not for me. I prefer getting stuck behind a combine over bumper to bumper traffic. My husband and I have been married for 22 years and have two daughters ages 16 and 18. My eldest is attending Coe College this Fall. We have a dog, cat, 2 cockatiels, and a rabbit that live with us inside. Our outside pets include: 13 ducks, 10 chickens, 2 geese, 2 quail and 2 beehives. We live on a small farm. My family and I love to camp and go boating. I'm a lifetime Girl Scout and earned my Gold Award by helping start a CPR program where I attended high school. I have been a leader of my girls' troop for 14 years. I also enjoy beekeeping, photography, singing, and cultivating my flower and vegetable gardens.

I am not a native Spanish speaker. My Spanish education started in seventh grade. I have Señora Arizpe to thank for helping me learn to love Spanish. She taught us crazy songs to learn our vocabulary and even took our class to Spain in eighth grade! Señora Donehey and Señor Premo got me through four years of high school Spanish and showed me how fun it is to teach a foreign language. I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish and teaching at Bradley University and spent my first study abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico. A few years later, I spent several Summers earning my master's degree in Spanish language and literature in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

You'll notice that I sign my announcements and messages as "Profe" which is the abbreviation for Profesor/a. Students are welcome to refer to me as "Profe" or "Señora".
