What do I need?

If you plan to walk in a Portland State University Commencement ceremony, you must wear:

You can also:

Decorate your cap and take part in the
Grad Cap Contest
Wear stoles — the Stole of Gratitude (available at University Market), academic stoles, cultural stoles
Purchase a souvenir PSU green-and-white tassel or other tassels of significance
Add items of personal significance, i.e. "bling," in the form of such things as beads, flowers, leis, decorations.

You cannot:

Wear a gown of another color unless you are a doctoral graduate or staff representing the school where you earned your doctorate degree

Bachelors and Masters graduates wear different styles of black gowns.

Masters graduates: You also need a hood

Mortarboards should be worn with a tassel representing your degree and can be decorated

Your tassel color should match the graduate's school, college or specific degree

Wear PSU's colors and academic seal during the ceremony then give the stole to someone special

Note: If you are registered to walk at commencement, a diploma cover will be given to you at the ceremony.
