Professor, Environmental Science & Management Fellow, Institute for Sustainable Solutions
Dr. Elise Granek runs the Applied Coastal Ecology lab in the Department of Environmental Science and Management at Portland State University. She holds a PhD in marine ecology from Oregon State University and a Masters degree in Forest Ecology and Conservation Biology from Yale University's School of the Environment. Her research at the land-sea interface combines her training in marine and terrestrial ecology and spans ecological (community composition in mangroves), socio-ecological (perceptions and attitudes about marine reserves, microplastics, non-native mangroves), and eco-toxicological (examining effects of microplatics, pesticides, pharmaceuticals on marine animals) studies. When not studying applied coastal ecology and mentoring students, Granek enjoys hiking, camping, biking, and backpacking with her two children and husband.
