Scoilnet

What is Scoilnet?

www.Scoilnet.ie is the Department of Education and Skills (DES) official portal for Irish education.

Scoilnet.ie contains a database of over 20,000+ online resources including websites, quizzes, lesson plans, notes, video/audio, games and other multimedia. You can access resources that are mapped to the Irish curriculum from the blue search box at the top of every page. This online repository has been developed as a support for teachers at both primary and post-primary levels. The accompanying video will give a general overview of Scoilnet.

Sharing resources and content on Scoilnet

Teachers can also share and upload their own teaching and learning resources to Scoilnet for other teachers and students to access, providing they have a Scoilnet account. This video shows the process involved in both creating an account and uploading a resource.

Scoilnet Learning Paths

Once you have signed in with your Scoilnet account you can also create a ‘Learning Path’. This is a collection of resources from the site that can be shared with learners so that they can access safe and reliable sources of information at home. In this manner, you can assign project work, consolidate a previously taught topic and/or promote independent inquiry for distant learning. You can find out how to create and share a Learning Path by watching this video.

Scoilnet Threads

Threads is an initiative that provides an online space for schools to store and share their student’s oral history projects. Threads is all about encouraging students to become active ‘oral historians’ and to engage in the collection of stories and history about their locality and to gather living people’s testimony about their own experiences and memories. The name for the project comes from the concept that the study of history is built around a set of events, people, and places spanning time and space - the threads of history. These threads, are woven together, interpreted, and analysed to build a fabric of historical understanding.
