The University of Toronto has launched a tuition-free initiative for nine First Nations whose territories include or are adjacent to its campuses in downtown Toronto, Mississauga and Scarborough.

There is no deadline for this funding – applicants can apply year round.

Proof of High-School enrolment
In partnership with Liuna Local 183, the Construction Craft Worker (CCW) Apprenticeship is an extremely versatile program that offers the trainee the capacity to work in a variety of sectors and construction fields. Our program covers a broad base of skills including form setting, scaffolding, and concrete placement skills. Some of the tasks completed by a CCW trainee include, erecting and dismantling concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites. They mix, pour and spread materials such as, concrete and asphalt.
Participants need to identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and must be currently residing within the Greater Toronto Area.
Attendees will need to fill out a new Miziwe Biik registration form and Employment Ontario form which can be downloaded on our Forms page.
Along with ALL of the following:
Valid driver’s license/government issued photo ID
Valid social insurance
Minimum of grade 10 or 16 credits in high school
*International documents are not accepted by the MLTSD. All international docs must be assessed – I can provide more info if necessary
LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre has just been notified that effective immediately, the Ministry of Labour, Training & Skills Development is requiring that all apprentices be double vaccinated.
Currently, we are looking to employ more Indigenous border services officers, non-uniformed employees and leaders.
There are three different awards available:
Merit Awards ($500) – for students completing Grades 10 – 12, including upgrading;
Bursaries ($1,000) – for students enrolled in trade, diploma or certificate programs;
Scholarships ($1,500) – for students enrolled in degree or graduate programs.
There is a maximum of one award per applicant per year. Students must re-apply each year if they wish to be considered.
You can apply for one of our Indigenous Education Awards if you:
Are a Canadian Indigenous person;
Are enrolled full-time in high school (including upgrading) or an accredited post-secondary institution or training program;
Are not the child of an ATCO employee.
