It is important that we understand how systems, ideologies, and forces that create and sustain oppression have shaped our thinking and reactions.
Once we understand more about our cultural frame, ways we engage in false binary thinking, the unseen areas these cause, and the assumptions and defences that perpetuate harm and halt our progress, we can begin to learn actions to embrace so that we can be be empowered anti-racist, anti-oppressive advocates and allies.
There are four actions to embrace. These tools help us share in the good work of making school, community, and the world more equitable, inclusive and just for all people.
Allyship develops on a continuum of action, and it moves from understanding to action when we have the knowledge and tools that can help us support and affirm each other while preventing harm and removing barriers.
