Heritage Months are complicated. We get that. Ultimately, we all want to live in a loving, equitable, diverse and liberated society.

We aim to affirm the communities and identities that are a part of our schools and our society all year round and these monthly shifts in emphasis are meant to amplify our efforts. 

May we choose to view these months of recognition as opportunities to spotlight pride for our identities and communities to which we belong, and as ways to learn about and affirm each other. 

May we also embrace these months to renew and re-energize our efforts to interrupt, disrupt, and dismantle the all forms of discrimination and oppressive systems, practices, and beliefs that continue to cause harm to far too many communities. 

Let us centre loving action, for there can be no true justice without love.
