You Tube Video of Presentation:
We will be using our MANUAL exposure controls to make sure that we're getting the best images on the spot with minimum editing and digital altering required. Through this class we will be practicing a lot of metering, working with available light and modifying it, when necessary - but there will be a lot of problem-solving and on-the-go, real-world experience in our photographic practice.
What do I want to DO with my images? Print them? Exhibit them? Show them on my website? (how LARGE do they need to be?)
What is a realistic budget?
What features do I really need? (Do you already use video functions? Do you require a USB charger?)
What will I realistically feel most comfortable using day-to-day? (if you don't want to bring your camera with you, you won't.)
An online guide for side by side comparisons, price guides, reviews and other geeky but useful information about the cameras you're interested in
An online store that has both a new and an EXCELLENT used marketplace with cameras, accessories and other things you might need.
Even if you are not on a budget, it is a good idea to see what is available used. Whether it's a new camera body or a lens that you've been thinking of adding to your collection, buying used can save you a lot of money. Buying used can be risky, however, if you know what you want and listen to your gut, you can get a great deal. I have listed here a few tips that I use and recommend, if you are interested in getting used gear.
Some good signs:
Venmo or PayPal payment AFTER camera is in your possession - like right
there at exchange
Still in box
Overall clean and no smells (seriously, it=E2=80=99s a thing)
Battery is charged and you can test it out.
Good Reasons why they=E2=80=99re selling: bought a better/newer one, don=E2=
=80=99t use it
as much and want a different one, too complicated, etc.....
Warning signs:
If they=E2=80=99re not ok with you testing it- that=E2=80=99s not ok
Bad vibes of any kind from them or the deal
Want credit, numbers, etc
They insist on you giving them the $ before you get the goods by mail or in
any scenario
Walk away if you=E2=80=99re feeling sketched out
B&H Photo, Keh Photography Gear & Adorama Photo are all website shops where the equipment has two things going for it that one doesn't get from buying person to person via Craigslist or Ebay. One, is that the gear is vetted, the other is that the gear may have a guarantee. Honestly, there is a third, which is that the shop has a vested interest in dealing with their customers fairly and making sure that they are satisfied.
