I use several of the Web 2.0 tools in my everyday life. The best part about them is that they help me stay in touch with my family; especially my five adult children. I began using some of them, like MySpace and Facebook back when they were teenagers. I had a daughter who had checked out of family life and the only way we could reach her was by posting music videos that were meaningful to us on her page. It was a wonderful way to communicate and she would post back to us.
As life has gone on, I have branched out to tools such as Twitter and Snapchat, but they are a little more confusing to me, so I don’t use them a much. I don’t like the fact that most of snapchat is lost after you post. I like the more permanent Facebook interface.
I use Librarything and have cataloged all my books there. It’s a great tool to use when I’m out shopping and find a great book. There have been a few times when I’ve bought a book twice, not realizing that I already own it! Librarything has solved my bad memory issues! At least where it comes to books!
When my sons were serving missions for our church (and our daughter is serving one now), we were able to use Skype to make calls to Guatemala twice a year and Google Hangouts to see our son in Brazil. It was great to use this technology and know that we could talk and see all we wanted and at no/nominal cost!
I use Wikipedia when I search for topics, especially when learning about celebrities. I also use Youtube when I am looking for directions on how to use a technology or learn a new skill. Youtube is also valuable when we need to fix an appliance here at home. It is a rare occasion when we have to call a professional for anything.
These tools have improved life at home in many ways, both in our personal relationships and in our home life. I’m not sure I could live without them now!!
