Introduction

The Kawah Ijen Volcano is located on the island of Java in Indonesia. It is a composite stratovolcano and contains an acidic crater lake. This crater lake is what Kawah Ijen is primarily known for. The lake is turquoise and picturesque and is the largest highly acidic volcanic lake in the world (Global Volcanism Program, 2024).
