My favorite day is Tết.
Lanterns decorated around the house.
Fireworks sparkle colorfully in the sky.
Everybody claps and laughs out loud.
Food has a leafy smell of banh chung.
I get lucky money in a red envelope.
I wear a white dress.
Wow! Childhood is amazing.
Ana Zapata
The bright sun hides behind a white sky.
Snowflakes fall like soft cotton candy.
The wind whistles through the door.
I touch the freezing powder snow.
My eyes are wet with pure joy.
A new snow friend is born.

Every afternoon, I usually go for a walk.
Today, the wind is blowing hard.
Dark clouds have gathered.
The rain begins to fall.
The scent of damp earth drifts faintly through the air.
The sweet taste of raindrops touches my lips.
Cool, refreshing drops land on my face.
I reach out my hand to catch the falling rain.
All around me, there is nothing but rain.
Oh, how beautiful nature truly is.

Golden sunlight spills.
Summer breathes in quiet heat.
Cool shade holds calm peace.

Summer 2015, we found this distant, lovely place.
All my family gathered in nature’s warm embrace.
With exceptional company, we ran and played free.
Laughing together beneath every green tree.
A river so cold, so powerful and bright
Filled with adventures and endless delight.
Louis Chen
I am a bird, always flying.
Now I am in a new place.
I know I will meet strong winds.
And heavy rain sometimes.
But I will also see sunshine.
And rainbows in the sky.
So I keep flying forward.
Flying toward something beautiful.
My Greatest Accomplishment in the U.S.
Written by Tam Chu
My greatest accomplishment after coming to the U.S. was getting my nail license and esthetician license in only six months. I moved to the U.S. about six months ago. When I came here, everything was new for me, including a new language and new life. I knew I needed a career so I could work and earn money, and I decided to choose the beauty industry. I went to beauty school, I practiced nail skills, and learned skincare every day. My husband always supported me. He also taught me about American culture. I passed the exams on my first try. I got a nail license and esthetician license. I felt very happy and proud of myself.
My Greatest Accomplishment
Written by Zainab Joyan
My greatest accomplishment was learning English and becoming more confident in my daily life. When I first came to a new country, life felt very hard because I could not speak English well, and I did not feel confident. School and work were especially difficult because I could not communicate easily with others. I decided that I wanted to improve my English, so I started studying and practicing every day. I watched videos, learned new words, and tried to speak more even when I felt nervous. At first, I made many mistakes, but I did not give up. This accomplishment showed me that I can improve myself if I stay patient and keep trying.
Got My Green Card
Written by Yi Kai Jiang
My wife and I have been together for 12 years, but for a long time we only saw each other once a year. So, we decided to apply for a K-1 visa. The K-1 visa is one of the options for getting a green card. We prepared and applied for the K-1 visa. A year later, I got a chance to interview. I was very happy and nervous. I was happy that I got the chance, but I was nervous because I didn’t know if I could pass. The day was a lucky day. The interviewer was kind. Her questions were very simple. So, I passed the interview. Immediately, I told my wife the good news. I booked a flight to the U.S. I was very excited because I could see my wife and stay by her side. We got married a few days after I arrived in Portland, and we applied for the green card. A year later, we received a rejection letter from the USCIS. We were very upset, but we wanted to try it again. So, we filed an appeal, and we sent a completely new document. Finally, we received a letter that we passed. We were so happy. We got my green card in the end.
