Artist Bio:
Hello everyone, I’m Olha, a student in the PCC ESOL program. This term, I am taking Level 6 Reading online class. I’m from Ukraine and live in the USA for almost 3 years.
Knitting and crocheting are my favorite hobbies and a source of comfort, creativity, and strength in my life.
I love creating unique handmade pieces from simple yarn. Watching something beautiful take shape, stitch by stitch, is both inspiring and rewarding. I usually create items for children, handmade purses for women, and accessories for pets. Each project is made with care and attention to detail, and I enjoy knowing that every item is truly one of a kind.
My hobby has also played an important role in my English-learning journey. When I talk about knitting and crocheting in English, I feel more comfortable and confident because it is a topic I truly enjoy. When I Speaking about knitting or crocheting with teachers and students I forget my fear of speaking English—a fear that, I think, every student studying a second language experiences. express myself more naturally, and build confidence in my communication skills.
Last fall, 2025, I broke my leg and lost my job. Because I had to stay home for a long period of time and could not move around freely, I spent many hours knitting and crocheting
I have enjoyed knitting and crocheting for many years. In the past, I often donated the items I made to charity and never imagined that I would one day open my own store. However, after losing my job, I began to think about new opportunities and how I could use my skills to earn extra income.
That challenging time encouraged me to take a chance on myself and turn my hobby into something more. I decided to open my Etsy shop, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made. I am very happy that I found the courage to start my own online business and share my handmade creations with people around the world.
Through my creative work, I have also learned how to connect with people from different backgrounds. Sharing my handmade creations and the stories behind them has given me opportunities to practice English in meaningful ways and build new friendships and connections.
