Classroom Expectations
Students should sit down once they get into the room.
This prevents students from creating unneeded disruptions and possible conflict.
Daily assignments and lessons are posted on the board. Follow the links below.
Advanced English 8 Agenda
Foundational English 8
Food and drinks must be left in backpacks.
This protects computers, spills on the floor, and trash being left behind. Students will need to snack on the run between classes.
Restroom and water refills should be done between classes.
This protects students' instructional time and learning time. Instead of stopping by the water fountain or bathroom, some students ask to go right before the tardy bell. It is difficult to begin class with students out of the room.
Students should work bell to bell. There are reading goals to be met. There are books in the classroom.
Many students do not have access to learning resources at home, and time is limited at school. It's best to keep first things, first.
Computer screens must be visible to the teacher, and GoGuardian will be used.
Students often find creative ways to be off task: playing games, watching videos, searching for music, or just looking at images. computers are for schoolwork.
Phones must be left in backpacks.
Students have urges to communicate with others, including parents, during class. They often play games or take photos.
No wireless earbuds will be permitted for usage.
Students WILL listen to their phone's music or share one earbud with another student even in another room. Students need a pair of wired earbuds to listen to audio on their computers. Also, students hide earbuds with their hair. Even if students have wired earbuds in their ears that are not on, they will have to remove them.
Personal grooming is limited to bathroom usage.
Boys and girls will often brush their hair or spray on colonges in class. Colognes can be over sprayed, and hair lingers on desktops and the floor.
No usage of strong profanity or racial slurs.
Digital Learning
All students will get to use a digital textbook that provides a variety of lessons and assignments. There will be an app for this textbook, so students may use their phones to access it. The textbook offers a variety of short stories, poetry, and dramas.
I use Google Classroom as the standard vehicle to communicate lessons and assignments to students. I like to blend student learning by mixing a variety of mediums into and with digital online learning. Textbooks and other hard copy resources will be used in the classroom. I like to use hard copy novels for reading while having students follow along with audio. In addition, I often have written directions recorded in audio. All a student has to do is click the speaker icon on digital instructions. I also give video instructions so students may have clarity.
Daily Assignment Links
The following links will connect you to day to day activites. In an event a student is absent, students will know what was missing. In some cases, students can stay caught up with classwork.

Sharing Student Work Online
From time to time, I may share student work online through this web site, YouTube, or our building's Twitter and Facebook pages. I do this to share student success with our Poplar Bluff community and among students' family and friends. During this current time of Covid 19, it is a good way to connect students to their familiy members that they may not get to visit with.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at juliegambill@pb.k12.mo.us . Email is the best way to contact me.
Thank you all for your continued support at home to better our future!
