The Pomeroy Family Needs assessment indicated 59% of parents were extremely interested and 29% of parents were very interested in addressing bullying. Parents also showed a great deal of concern in the personal safety of their students; 43% were extremely interested and 45% were very interested. Staff referrals showed that there was also a need in addressing personal health and safety. These areas of need were addressed with the Stand Strong, Stay Safe curriculum provided by Child Builders. There were four lessons provided that assisted the counselor in teaching the students to be assertive. It showed students what emotional abuse looks like, what are inappropriate touch situations, along with neglect and physical abuse examples.

The Pomeroy Elementary Counseling Program is successful because of the collaboration with its stakeholders. Students, parents, staff and community partners work together with the district to provide social and emotional learning environments to all. Stakeholders are communicated via: In-person conferences, Zoom conferences, phone, email, flyers, texts, calendars, social media and newsletters. Meetings with stakeholders are held to discuss how to execute plans, as well as, how to improve on collaborations for the following school year. The counselor recognizes that it is imperative to have a united front in order for all Pomeroy students and the community to have an impactful and successful year.
