Books & Reading
How to find a good book to read!
How can you find a good book to read?
Ask a friend and share books you've enjoyed reading with one another.
Ask the library staff - the library staff are happy to recommend a good book to suit your reading tastes and interests. The Year 11 Library monitors can help you with recommendations at lunch time too.
Ask your teacher - your English teacher can recommend great books. Other teachers may also have the perfect recommendation for you.
Ask your parents - do you know what your Mum or Dad, or another adult in your life liked reading in their childhood or as a teenager? Do they have a book they have recently read that they could recommend to you?
Lamont Standing Orders folder - look out for this folder with reviews of the new books that have been received by Lamont. The folder is located with the new books on display. This is a great way to discover new books from Australian and international authors.
Go to the Books & Reading website and visit the Book Recommendations and Book Lists webpages for lists by genre and reading recommendations from students and staff.
Book Reviews & Shelf Talkers - read book reviews from students in the folders on display in the Fiction area, or browse the shelves and read a recommendation from a fellow student. If you would like to write a book review or complete a shelf talker to recommend a good book you have read, please see the library staff.
Novelist Plus - have you read a good book and you would like to find something similar? Try searching the Novelist Plus database to discover your next book. Novelist Plus can be found on the Research Resources page (link available via eLibrary) or go to it directly here.
How to request a new book
If there is a book you would like to read and the library does not have a copy already in the collection, you may submit a request for the book to be purchased. Fiction and non-fiction books in print and/or digital format may be requested.
