Course Description:

The study of Ancient History engages students in an investigation of life in early societies based on the analysis and interpretation of physical and written remains. It enables students to investigate and understand the possible motivations and actions of individuals and groups and how they shaped the political, social, economic and cultural landscapes of the ancient world. Throughout the Ancient History course, students will interact with various cultures and belief systems as well as the various influences of ideas and their origins, which formed the ancient world. This course enables students to develop their analytical skills as well as challenges the students to question and interpret all the information, theories and evidence they encounter, helping them to make an informed decision or judgement. Furthermore, Ancient History raises important ethical issues associated with present and future ownership, administration and presentation of the cultural past. It encourages students to appreciate our responsibility for conserving and preserving the world’s cultural heritage.
