The theme of The Girl in the Castle by James Patterson is that you need to let go to accept things. Hannah didn't just let go of the fact that her brothers were dying, causing her to go try to get food, causing Mary to follow, causing her to persevere to realize that she should send her back to them to get caught, causing Mary to get killed. If Hannah hadn't been so involved in her brother's dying and let Mary stay, then Mary would still have been alive. We see Hannah finally following this theme when Jordan tells her about the past. She says, “What if hiding a thing could be harder than letting it out? Letting it go?” This suggests she finally lets go of her past. At the very end, Hannah then says, “My name is Hannah Dory, and I fell in love with my enemy. For a little while, he loved me back. And then he let go. My name is hannah dory, and i am free." which now shows shes completly let go and she will be able to move on with her life. Therefore, the theme of The Girl in the Castle by James Patterson is that you need to let go to accept things.
