Hannah Doe is a teenager living in Belman Psychiatric Hospital in New York City. She often has dissociative episodes that take her back to the year 1347, where she is a starving peasant in a small village under the control of a cruel baron. Desperate to save her family and friends, she tries to steal food from the baron's castle but gets caught. Most of her friends are killed, the baron takes an interest in Hannah and offers her a life of luxury, but it’s all manipulative. In the present, Hannah starts to bond with Jordan, a kind psychology intern who wants to help her uncover her hidden memories. As her experiences in both the hospital and the past become more intense, it becomes harder to tell which reality is real.
