At the beginning of the story, Cap drives Rain to the hospital because she fell off the tree. While driving her, a Cop pulls Cap over for driving underaged, and Cap says my grandmother is hurt and needs to go to the hospital, so I'm driving her. The Cop lets him go and arrives at the hospital.
In Chapter 2, Rain gets admitted to the hospital and waits for the doctor to arrive with the scan. When the doctor arrives, the doctor says the bad news that Rain has to be in the hospital for a couple of months while she gets better. So then Rain calls her friend Floramundi/Mrs. Donnely to take care of Cap until she gets better and they head on Cap to Mrs Donnely's house.
In Chapter 3, Zach the popular kid at Cap's new school Claverage Middle School, or should I say C-average Middle School. According to Zach, the kids at Claverage are just dumb, so no wonder he changed the sign to C-average. Then right when Zach was walking across the principal's office, there came Mr. Kasagi. Mr. Kasagi says "Show Cap around school, he is new. And while Zach was walking around showing him his locker and things, Zach came up with a great idea, to make Cap president. Every year they pick the biggest dork to be president and this year Zach came up with Cap. During meetings, they make fun of and laugh at the president and bully them just to get out of school and get some entertainment.
In chapter 4, Cap was very surprised by all the new things that he had never seen. He saw a fight in the middle of the hall. When the teacher asked for a witness Cap raised his hand, he then got sent to the office where he met Mrs. Donnely, and they headed out to meet Rain. When he meets Rain, he complains about school and how hard it is, and Cap heads back to Mrs Donnely's home.
In chapter 5, Hugh hears people talking about how Cap will be the new President In lunch, Hugh sits with him and acts like his friend. After lunch, Cap gets selected and Hugh is happy he won't be the loser anymore.
In chapter 6, Naomi talks about how cool Zach is and Lina comes and takes Zach away from her because she is cooler. But they still act like friends and talk about what to do with Cap after he gets selected.
In chapter 7, Mrs Donnely meets with the principal Mr. Kasagi a lot and talks about Cap and how he's doing. One day Mr. Kasagi says Cap is the new president, and Mrs Donely goes home when Sophie tells her they pick the biggest loser to be president every year, and Mrs Donely feels bad for Cap. Sophie also poured water on Cap's head and didn't apologize, so Mrs Donely had to do it for her.
In chapter 8, Cap talks about how bad it is on the Bus and how he misses Rain. On the bus, it is fully crowded and a lot of fights happen, and it is very scary. "No wonder Rain chose to not be in society", says Cap.
In Chapter 9, Sophie talks about how nice her mother is for letting in the loser and how awful he smells. He knows nothing as well, in trigonometry and tears, he talks to the TV thinking it's a person. And because Cap knows how to drive, he teaches Sophie and he is awful. She was scared and drove in and Cap said" Honest" mistake. Cap kept on bossing her and Sophie took her Mom's Car without permission, she almost saw them and almost got in trouble.
In Chapter 10, Namoi feels bad for how Zach is treating Cap and feels bad for being with Zach and letting him feel bullied. Zach took his shoes stole them, and locked him in the library for 2 hours before getting realsed. Zach was getting mad because he had no reaction and couldn't make fun of him. And Naomi says to herself that she hopes Cap takes revenge for all they've done to him.
In Chapter 11, Hugh talks about how this was the best year for him because he wasn't getting bullied. On the bus, the driver randomly became unconscious and didn't breathe. Everyone was very scared, and Cap had to take over. The intercom said to not drive.
In chapter 12, Cap asks Naomi for directions to the hospital, and there he drives. When he arrived he got arrested and released because of Mrs. Donnely. Mrs Donnely says you did the right thing.
In chapter 13, Sophie meets her dad, and Cap realizes how much nicer she is when her dad is there, she is in a better mood. Her dad meets Cap and understands why she is mean to Cap. Her dad gives her a bracelet as a belated birthday present, and says" I'll get it engraved for you."
In chapter 14, Cap now knows about 129 students' names, and more and more students come because of the bus driving incident. Another reason why students come is because of the Halloween dance and he needs to prepare for them. Cap didn't know they needed snacks, but they asked for them, and he complained to Rain, and all she said was it would be okay.
In chapter 15, Hugh was trying to make his and Cap's friendship better, but Cap didn't understand. Hugh then asked Cap nice shirt hoping he would come to the mall with him and spend time, but all he said was" I'll show you how to make it". The teacher caught them making shirts, the she said that this was a great idea, and told the principal to come and invite people, so many people came to make tie-dye shirts to just skip class. And the rest of the day everyone was wearing their tye-dye shirts.
In chapter 16, when Cap walks into Mrs. Donnely's house he almost gets hit because of Sophie. She was in a bad mood because her dad left early. Mrs Kasagi talks to Cap later the next day and tells him to handle the budget and to use it wisely. Later, Cap uses some of the money to engrave the bracelet and make Sophie feel better.
In chapter 17, Mrs Donnely was talking to Mr. Kasagi, and he said that he heard rumors that Cap was forced to be president, and Mrs. Donnely felt her accusations were correct. When she got home she found the bracelet that said all you need is love, and that sounded like Cap, so she figured Cap had a crush on Sophie.
In chapter 18, Hugh felt that after the bus incident, everyone thought of Cap as a hero, and they praised him causing Hugh to get bullied more. Later outside, Naomi was asking money for charity, when Cap put in a big check causing Noami to scream. Everyone huddled around and found out about Cap, even though he was using the school's money in the check, they didn't know that. Then Noami said," Cap you're the best person ever for the check and kissed Cap."
In chapter 19, Zach was getting frustrated that all the attention was now going to Cap. Then he finds out that Cap is using the school's money and he wants to find a way to spread it so that his attention comes back to him. He goes to Hugh and asks him for help, but he refuses saying that even though he's mad at Cap, they're still friends. Zach then regrets putting Cap as president, he should have put Hugh like always and none of this would have happened.
In chapter 20, Cap now knew about 300 students thanks to the yearbook, but he still didn't know any 6th graders, so he was looking at old ones, and that's when Sophie said he needed to get a life. He is confused because he already has one not getting the joke. Then later comes the pep rally, when Hugh says wear this jersey for our team. And when he went out, that's when he realized he was wearing the other team's jersey.
In chapter 21, Cap gets tackled and causes Cap to limp and get hurt. Later in the locker room, the coach was very disappointed in them for charging right at Cap, even though he was wearing another team's jersey. Darryl, the one who ran at him first feels bad for his actions and finds out it was Hugh and Zach's fault for making him wear one. Later when Darrly was trying to punch Zach, he accidently punches Cap causing him to gush blood out. He then goes to the nurse, and outside he finds the ambulance and therefore leaves Cap, the Greatest President according to many students.
In chapter 22, Cap finds Rain in the ambulance and she tells Cap, "We're going back to Garland" Cap is thrilled as he gets on the ambulance and heads off the Mrs. Donnely's house to get Cap things back. When they arrive, Sophie helps Cap pack, and Cap writes a note saying goodbye to Mrs. Donnely, and they leave.
In chapter 23, Mr Kasagi finds out the checks are being misused, so he calls Mrs. Donnely realizing he left. Mr Kasagi says he has to call the police, when Mrs. Donnely defends Cap and says you have to explain to him properly, not just tell him to use wisely. He knows nothing and he needs more explanation because he has never experienced anything like this, so it's your fault says Mrs. Donnely.
In chapter 24, Naomi was waiting for Cap when she realized he was gone forever. Zach then finds a note in the cafeteria saying the dance was canceled, and he blames Cap for it. Naomi then shouts at Zach saying it's all your fault. Another student has a brother who dates Sophie, the house where Cap used to live, so the next day they are there. When they head there, they find out Cap has left for good.
In chapter 25, everyone talks about how Zach and Hugh caused Cap to leave, so no wonder Zach finds a spitball in his hair for the first time. Hugh then finds a note in the library that shows that Cap ruined the Halloween dance and shows it to Zach. Zach then comes up with a great idea and finds a way to spread it so it will be back to normal.
In chapter 26, It is the day of Sophie's driving test, and before she takes off, she finds out that her dad didn't send the bracelet. When she is about to parallel park, she finds out due to the radio that Cap sent the bracelet engraved just to make her feel better, when Sophie regretted how she treated Cap.
In chapter 27, Cap felt that he had to be in Claverage and he felt lonely, so for the first time he disobeyed Rain and he went off the Claverage. When he is going there, she finds Sophie and Sophie apologizes for her action and they head to Calverage middle. When they went in, there were no costumes, but music and that's when Sophie figured out that they were dressed as Cap because they missed him.
In chapter 28, Mrs. Donnely talks about how neat and responsible Cap is when Sophie is so lazy and irresponsible. Mrs. Donnely was mad that Sophie took off with the Car right after passing the test and getting her license. Mr. Kasagi then calls Mrs. Donnely saying that the kids are having a big party at Claverage and they both head there.
In chapter 29, Zach and Hugh find a final plan not to be hated, so they hold a memorial for Cap, and they all talk about how great Cap was, when it was finally Hugh's turn he apologizes right when Mr. Kasagi comes.
In chapter 30, the students find out Cap is not dead and that he is in the crowd when he says goodbye. He says every single person's name precisely and then says a final goodbye.
In the last chapter, 31, when Cap is heading back to Garland he finds out that it is now another property's land now. Rain then says's Cap I think it's time for you to experience life. You will live far longer than me and what will you do when I'm not here says Rain, and then head back to Mrs. Donnely's house and return back.
