The theme of the Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is that if you don't like something you can change it. One piece of evidence to help prove this is "Vin wasn't on duty ; the watch hole was simply one of the few places she could find solitude". another piece of evidence to help prove this is "Camon growled slightly, then raised his hand and backhanded her across her face". Vin was not on duty but hiding from Camon. So Camon in a fit of anger abused her because he was annoyed that she was hiding. Another piece of evidence to prove this is"what about you vin? She gazed back at him. Why is he asking me? He already knows that he has a hold over me. The job doesn't matter, as long as i learn what he knows. Kelsier waited. Im in Vin said." Another piece of evidence to prove this is "her copper on to hide her alomancy." Vin joined kelseir's crew and learned allomancy because she joined it. These all help prove that the theme of the Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is that if you don't like something you can change it.
A motif of Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is Descrimination. This is because throughout the book Vin and Kelsier have a reoccuring hatred for the slavery of Skaa. One reason for this might be because they are half blooded Skaa too. We see acts of kindness in Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson too. one example of this is when the Skaa are allowed to rebel. they gather in the caves as a resistance to the Lord ruler. In fact, the entire plan made by Kelsier is to free the Skaa from slavery. so in the end Vin killed the Lord ruler to save the Skaa.

Mistborn is set in a dry world with a red sky and ash rains consistently. The tops of the houses run black with ash stained tiles in a medieval style of building. One of the recurring places is Luthdael. Luthdael is an ash stained city with buildings three stories high in some areas. large keeps and castles are strewn about the city, which are the great houses where the important nobles live. At the heart of the city is Kredishaw, the Lord rulers palace. Kredishaw is a hill of a thousand spires and has many metal spikes protruding from the ground. The over all vibe dark and foreboding.
