Hi everyone! My name is Shannon Kirkpatrick, but as a teacher I go by Ms. KP. That name is more than just a nickname - my mom was an elementary school librarian, and because the little 1st and 2nd graders had a hard time saying "Kirkpatrick" she let them call her "Mrs. KP." I started teaching the same year that she retired, and so I took her teaching name to carry on the tradition!
I was born and raised in Aloha, Oregon, and my family has been in Oregon for 4 generations! I went to high school at St. Mary's Academy, and then went to Whitman College for my undergrad in Walla Walla, Washington, where I got a double major in English and German Literature.
I've always known I wanted to be a teacher, but I also wanted to have some adventures first before I settled down, so after college I went to culinary school and learned to be a pastry chef. I worked for 3 years as a pastry chef after culinary school, making desserts at Pix Patisserie and Ciao Vito here in Portland.
The dessert table at a wedding I catered!
Now that I have been teaching high school English for the last 11 years, I can't imagine doing anything else! I love reading and discussing issues and events with my students every year, and look forward to doing it for many more years to come!
