Unit 1 TESTS will be the first week in October. Review materials are available HERE already. Start studying!
Use the vids below for tips on how to use Google Sheets to create data tables, format them, create plots, and use equations to simplify and speed up calculations.
These are great skills to work on throughout the year that will be super useful in many careers in your future!
How to Enter Data and Format a Data Table
In this video you will get some very basic information on creating a Google Sheet, entering data into columns in that sheet, and adding gridlines for some simple formatting. You likely do not need this video unless you have never used spreadsheet software before.
Using Formulas in Google Sheets
In this video you will learn the basics of doing calculations in Google Sheets. By pressing the "=" sign in a cell Sheets will expect you to enter a math equation instead of a number. These formulas allow you to do a lot of simple math very quickly right in the spreadsheet.
Using Functions in Google Sheets
Functions work in similar ways to formulas, but allow you to do more complex mathematics. These are built in math operations such as calculating averages, sums, or even statistical data such as standard deviations with one simple command. There are thousands of different functions built into Google Sheets. Getting familiar with them from lists like this can really take your data analysis skills to the next level!
Creating A Scatter Plot
In this final video you will learn how to turn a data table into a scatter plot, allowing you to plot data on both the x and y-axis. This is the most common type of plot that we use in science class since it allows us to plot data from our independent variable (x-axis) vs. our dependent variable (y-axis) to help identify a pattern. This video will also cover some basic formatting options to customize your plot to your needs.
