Welcome to Unit 2! Check Schoology for new due dates! All work done by the end of MP1 (10/31)!
These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
CrashCourse - A quick but entertaining alternative
TED-Ed - Another alternative with some more details about the importance of this discovery. Great examples of the power of Mendeleev's discovery.
SciShow - Is the periodic table complete? Is there ever an end?
Open the menu below for typed content, like in a textbook. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
CK-12 - A discussion of the work of Mendeleev
CK-12 - The modern periodic table and its uses
Live Science - Another take on the topic from another source
Resources
ptable.com - an AMAZING online periodic table. It is dynamic and can provide you different information based on settings. Makes our paper one look prehistoric!
Class Practice
Colorcode your periodic table with the information listed below. Make sure to include a key to allow you to use the color-coding later in the year. You can do this LIGHTLY on your real periodic table OR fill out this mostly blank one.
Some of these regions will overlap. Be careful how you setup your colors to make sure you can see all the different groupings clearly!
You MUST INCLUDE A KEY for your color-coding! Without a key the colors are meaningless!
Info:
identify the location of the following GROUPS:
Carbon Group (tetrals)
Nitrogen Group (pnictogens)
Alkali Metals
Alkaline Earth Metals
Halogens
Noble Gasses
Boron Group
Oxygen Group (chalcogens)
Identify the location fo the following regions on the periodic table.
Metals
Non-metals
Metaloids or Semi-Metals
Lanthanides
Actinides
On a SEPARATE PERIODIC TABLE like this one identify the different 'blocks' on the periodic table associated with the Schrodinger model and orbitals.
s-block
p-block
d-block
f-block
Lab Activity
There is NO lab activity for this section!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
