Welcome to Unit 2! Check Schoology for new due dates! All work done by the end of MP1 (10/31)!
Video 1: REQUIRED
Video 2: OPTIONAL, but very helpful!! No notes required!!
These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
rhcrcgvp - another discussion on how spectroscopy works focused on astrophysics and how spectroscopy is used to learn about stars and planets throughout the visible universe. They do a great job walking though the energy absorption and emission process.
LetsLearnScience - Another take on the same topic. Not as fancy as the prev vid, but very thorough with good links between the atom's structure and how that results in a particular spectrum.
The links below are sites with written descriptions of this content. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
LibreTexts - A detailed discussion of emission spectroscopy covering topics from light through the explanation of spectral lines and their link to the Bohr Model. Very good!
In this practice you will be asked to predict the location of spectrum lines based on the arrangement of rings in a Bohr Model. This is NOT something that was covered in the video! The HW covers info that for some will be enough to figure this out, but for many you will likely need some help! I will hold sessions during class to go over examples and answer questions. You can ask for this type of help at any time if needed!
Use the instructions above to learn how to record the spectra of multiple elements, and then use them to ID an unknwon material like a fingerprint ID's a person!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
