Section 3:
Gas Laws
Unit 1 TESTS will be the first week in October. Review materials are available HERE already. Start studying!
Gas Laws
These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
Professor Dave - some review of KMT and a great disc of how it translates into the gas laws.
Teacher's Pet - this is a very quick video that shows a little bit about how the gas laws were derived, and a little bit about how to use them to solve problems. Three clear example calcs here.
Tyler DeWitt - this video focuses more on how to choose the correct gas law to solve a problem, and how to correctly assign variables. Tyler explains all this with a few examples.
Melissa Maribel - this is a test-prep style vid that really focuses on how to solve problems. Its pretty long (25+min) but you can pic and choose what you want to use.
The Organic Chem Tutor - this is a pretty dry vid that focuses exclusively on practice problems with the Ideal Gas Law equation. Great help if you are having using this equation!
Met Office - a more historical and visual discussion of gas laws. Not a lot of help here for solving problems here, but a good history lesson!
The links below are sites with written descriptions of this content. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
U of Perdue - a very detailed discussion of all of our gas law equations and why they work. Less help here on practice problems, more on gaining a deeper understanding of the formulas.
Lumen Learning - another discussion of why our gas equations work, similar to the link above from the U of Perdue. This source is a little less technical with some easier to relate-to examples.
NIST - another discussion of the gas laws. This one, provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, discusses how these laws apply in clinical/medical setting, for those of you interested in medicine.
Varsity Tutors - an online quiz with answers and work! Great resource if you are having trouble with the math in this section.
Expii - This site has a linked vid as well as a set of steps for solving gas stoichiometry problems. Difficult to find online resources on this topic!
Resources
Use the link(s) below to access tools to help you in this section. These tools are not required, but typically help a lot by either replacing a big chunks of the notes you need to take and/or with practice and labs. These docs can also usually be used on tests and quizzes.
Gas Law Equation Sheet - this doc summarizes all of the gas law equations, all of the needed constants, and any needed conversions factors
Use your Gas Law Equations to solve the problems in this practice. Aside from some unit conversions, you should find these calculations to be relatively simple.
Cavalcade o' Chemistry - If you are looking for extra practice check Mr. Guch's Cavalcade o' Chemistry for a TON of extra practice! This work is OPTIONAL!
Lab Activity
No lab activity for this section!!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
