Unit 1 TESTS will be the first week in October. Review materials are available HERE already. Start studying!
Video 1: Heat vs. Temperature - Basics of Thermodynamics
Open the menu below for other vids by other teachers. These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
Veritasium - uncovering some misconceptions about temperature
Minute Physics - more on how we feel temperature
Professor Dave Explains - a more lecture-style discussion of specific heat and the related calculations.
Open the menu below for typed content, like in a textbook. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
The Physics Classroom - a very detailed online textbook that covers everything we discuss this part of the year for thermodynamics. This includes a very useful discussion on calorimetry for our lab activity. Great resource!
Sciencing - Similar to the Physics Classroom, this is another online textbook. Less content here, but more integrated media like short vids.
This is a quick practice to give you some experience with the heat/temperature equation, as well as set you up for the math in the ab activity.
I don't have an answer key, but you can check you work for most of the problems by looking up the specific heat for elements online. Your answers should match!
In this lab activity you will be creating a heating for water to provide evidence that heat (from the hotplate) and temperature (read by the thermometer) are not the same thing!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
