Welcome to Unit 2! Check Schoology for new due dates! All work done by the end of MP1 (10/31)!
These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
IsaacsTEACH - a spiky-haired Mr. Issacs covers the same material as in my vid. Watch here for a different perspective.
Papapodcasts - another take on the same material with more example problems solved
chemistNATE - example calculations for molar mass
The links below are sites with written descriptions of this content. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
Carnegie Mellon University - How to calculate molar mass/molecular weight. Some examples and explanation from a very prestigious university!
ThoughtCo - Another discussion on molar mass/molecular weight.
LibreTexts - yet another online textbook. This one discusses percent composition calcs with examples.
Resources
You do not need these resources to complete work for this section, but they will be helpful later in the year when you need to do these calcs again!
Molar Mass Calculator - Type in your formula and this site will calculate the molar mass of your compound, as well as show you how it did the job. Nice! Don't use it for the practice, but if you need to do more of these later this is faster than your calculator!
Percent Composition Calculator - This site will calc the percent comp and molar mass of any chem formula you plug into it. VERY easy to use for some quick answers. Again, don't use this for this practice otherwise you won't know how to do the math on the test!
Fill in the table for the linked worksheet above. This will also include some naming and practice writing formulas!
Cavalcade o' Chemistry - Extra practice with answers! OPTIONAL!
Follow the link above for instructions on how to conduct the lab for this experiment.
You will measuring the percent composition of water in a type of compound known as a hydrate. Same math as in the practice, but with real data.
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You CANNOT use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz. This quiz is CLOSED NOTES!
You CANNOT work with others on the quiz.
You CAN use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials. These are often lined on the quiz itself.
You should also have you Nomenclature Summary Doc you made for ht lab activity in this section.
You have 5 attempts to pass this quiz.
Do NOT take multiple attempts at once if you are not sure why you got questions wrong.
Do NOT take another attempt if you got the same grade again.
DO see Mr. Kiefer for help and to go over previous quiz attempts.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
