Unit 1 TESTS will be the first week in October. Review materials are available HERE already. Start studying!
Open the menu below for other vids by other teachers. These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
MrSteinChemistry - Nice graphics help with this other teachers perspective on the topic. He also covers conservation of charge which I do not hold you accountable for.
Kahn Academy - Three examples of writing balanced radiation reactions by the famous Salman Kahn.
IRSN - A breakdown of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. What caused the reactor meltdown and environmental impact that ensued. Produced by the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire, or IRSN.
Open the menu below for typed content, like in a textbook. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
Western Oregon University - this online textbook covers info from across the unit. There are a lot of great info on rad types and some examples of balanced rad reactions.
LibreTexts - SUPER details account of balancing rad reactions. This is a different perspective from what I explained, but perhaps it will help. There is a specific methodology for balancing with each type of radiation!
OpenStax - a simpler version of what LibreTests offers above. Much shorter explanation of how to balance rad reactions, and more similar to what I discussed in our video.
Complete this class practice to gain some experience balancing nuclear reactions. Should be fairly easy. Check the second page of the doc for an answer key.
Lab Activity
There is NO lab activity for Section 5. Neat!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
