Video: Dimensional Analysis
Open the menu below for other vids by other teachers. These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
Khan Academy - good examples with the metric system
Penguin Prof - deeper discussion of why dimensional analysis works
Open the menu below for typed content, like in a textbook. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
Texas A&M - a brief introduction to dimensional analysis with an example problem
Alysion.org - a site with a TON of examples problems that are all worked through and explained. Very helpful!
Resources
Use the info below to help you with this section. This could include data tables and reference materials that you need to answer questions connected to this topic.
Metric System - a chart that lists all conversions in the metric system
Metric System - this website has some more details on metric conversions if you need help!
Steps to Help Solve a Dimensional Analysis Problem - a step-by-step guide to help you develop a process for solving complex dimensional analysis problems. Steps are color-coded to match up to an example problem on the second page. This is a great tool to help you get started with dimensional analysis, and from my observations, having a specific process is often what separates success from failure on tests!!
Conversion Factors - a list of which conversion factors you need to know vs. which ones I provide for you.
Lab Activity
No lab activity for this section. Yay!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
