Unit 1 TESTS will be the first week in October. Review materials are available HERE already. Start studying!
Video 1: Measurement
Video 2: Counting Significant Digits and Rounding
Video 3: Accuracy and Precision
Open the menu below for other vids by other teachers. These videos are NOT required, but do offer a different perspective on the topic if that helps!
Crash Course Chemistry - A good (and lively!) background on why we need significant digits
Region 10 ESC - another take on what accuracy and precision mean
Open the menu below for typed content, like in a textbook. Some prefer to learn from reading rather than watching. If that helps you these resources can be useful!
Texas A&M - walkthrough on precision vs accuracy as well as sig digs in calculations and how to properly round
Penn State U - another discussion of the rules for counting and calculations as well as some practice
Practice
Measurement Practice - Use your measurement rules to practice reading different measuring tools and recording the correct number of decimal places, or significant digits. Answers!
Significant Digits and Rounding - Try these problems to practice how to use significant digits in calculations. Answers!!
This lab will have you designing an experiment to determine a factor that affects the density of a material.
This used to be an entire section in Unit 1, but for many students a reintroduction into Density is not needed. If you do need extra support with Density check out the old page that had all the relevant content!
To prove mastery of this topic you will need to take a quiz on Schoology. Here are the guidelines:
You must show me all the completed work for this section BEFORE you you can start attempts on this quiz.
You can use any notes, practice, or prior quiz attempts to help you complete the quiz.
You can use ANY class resources like a calculator, your periodic table, or any other reference materials
You have UNLIMITED attempts to take this quiz, but after 4 tries you will need to take a paper version with me in class.
You should only need 2-3 tries for each quiz. If it takes more than that you should be reaching out for help!
You CANNOT work with others on the quizzes
