What's new & Best Practices for KAMI's SCHOOLOGY INTEGRATION

Do you have an idea, but need some help figuring out how to bring that idea to life? Do you just need someone to bounce ideas off of to find the perfect ways to make them work? Then the Digital Make and Take is for you! Come with materials you want to digitize, projects you want to create, or the beginnings of an idea that you know can be amazing. You'll have time to collaborate on, develop, and make your materials, and you can walk out the door knowing you're ready to put them into use in September! Please be sure to bring your school laptop and any curricular materials you might need for your creations!

Join the Muhlenberg College’s Director of the Institute for Religious and Cultural Understanding and Professor of Religious Studies Dr. Chip Gruen as he brings a wealth of knowledge to our staff who seek to increase cultural literacy and empathy for diverse worldviews. The mission of the Institute is to work towards a healthier public understanding of religion and its role in the lives of people and their communities. Chip helps people get comfortable with religious diversity, which can often be confusing. He’ll connect the dots as to why religious and cultural literacy matters in developing warm and caring relationships with students. Plan to leave with some tools to help enhance your understanding of this very complex world.

We all know it is important for all of us to take time for self-care. But do we?? Engage in the act of mindfulness/ self-care through simultaneously using your mind and body to learn and create! The act of Creating can move your focus OFF of the stressors in your life for a while by refocusing them on the intellectual challenge and joy of learning and applying new concepts and skills. Give yourself permission to spend some time to be refreshed! In this beginner’s academy, the basics of colored pencil techniques will be introduced with the goal of each student creating their own color pencil artwork! No experience required!

science of reading and phonics

There are five pillars of reading instruction. They are known as the five pillars of early literacy. They are a set of key components developed by the National Reading Panel essential for reading proficiency. They include phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. This class will show you strategies on how to incorporate phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary from all academic areas to improve your student's overall reading comprehension. The class will focus more on phonics instruction and how to integrate those components into content or math. Vocabulary use of Greek and Latin root words to build student comprehension will also be introduced.

Each month will highlight a different literacy focus. Podcasts that focus on the current Science of Reading will be selected for you to listen to. No need to register on CPE Tracker for this opportunity! Simply follow the directions below to participate:

CPI Initial Training

This class is for those who have never attended a CPI class or for those whose certification has expired. This class teaches the basic CPI principles of crisis de-escalation and personal safety techniques. This class also certifies you for 12-18 months in nonviolent crisis intervention.
PLEASE NOTE: Participants will be expected to physically interact with others in the group. Precautions will be taken but you have to perform the measures in order to certify! YOU MUST ATTEND BOTH CLASSES!

CPR/First Aid/AED blended learning Full Training
1/31 | 4:00-5:00 | ROOM 110 (Blended Learning + Skill Session = 4 hours)
This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion and must be taken on a PC or tablet with a high speed Internet connection. The Blended Learning Course will be emailed 1 week prior to the in-person skill session. Allow approximately 3 hours to complete the online portion. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a digital certificate for Adult First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
