Instead of giving the people faster horses, Henry Ford helped to bring the automobile to all of the people. Prior to this, the automobile was a popular idea but it was considered a plaything for the rich. It wasn’t affordable because it had to be handcrafted. Henry Ford was able to manufacture the car on a mass production line. His design helped to make the Model T a common household item. The creative design of the Model T changed the way automobiles would look in the future.

The Model T had a wooden body on a steel frame. It had a four-cylinder, twenty horsepower engine, tank capacity of ten gallons or sixteen gallons, It also had a completely enclosed power plant and transmission. He was able to make it lighter than other models. The Model T had a system of interchangeable parts, it took just over 12 hours to build and sold for only $850. This was lower than the price of other automobiles. By doing these things, the car became much more affordable.
