As engineers and architects, can we use our talents and passions to leverage technology to meet our communities needs?
How do engineers use their skills every day?
Goal: I can use the design process to create a solution to a real-life problem.
Think about someone who's missing a limb and what they'd most like to do with a prosthesis.
Think outside the box and think about reinventing a hand.
What would a chef, mechanic, or even a student like them like to have instead of a hand?
How might you design a prosthetic to turn a door handle?
We're going to complete the Invention Squad challenge, "Design for Someone"
To get there go to the Spike website > Click "Spike Prime" (blue one) > Click "Unit Plans" (blue) > Click "Invention Squad" (green) > Click "Design for Someone"
Here's some tips:
Step 1: The mission.
Step 2: Sketch your ideas in your NOTEBOOKS. The more ideas, the better.
Step 3: Build TWO prototypes as a team.
Step 4: Program & test your prototypes.
Step 5: Collect data and observations in your NOTEBOOKS.
Day 2 Check List:
Complete TWO prototypes.
Run tests on your prototypes:
Challenge them.
Compare how they perform. Record data in a table in your notebook.
Redesign to improve results.
Take photos and videos for your websites.
Find someone from another team and share your teams designs: sketches of your prototype, your test data, and your overall observations of how it went. What do both of your designs have in common? How are they different?
Take apart today's build and return to pieces to your Spike kit properly. Remember, we want to leave our kits better than we found them!
