About Aspiring Medical Professionals
Aspiring Medical Professionals is a semester course that offers students an opportunity to gain real life healthcare skills in an experiential learning environment.
Students observe real healthcare situations through local hospitals including University Health Truman Medical Center, Saint Luke's North, Children's Mercy and others to gain a better understanding of a healthcare provider’s role.

Connects classroom learning with professional experiences.
Class time is held off campus, and students complete 8 weeks of shadow rotations with local partners.
Rotations include a variety of areas within the field of healthcare.
Students complete a Capstone project summarizing their learning over the semester.
Students alternate shadow rotations and class time each week.
Students manage individual schedules.
Students practice communication skills and make arrangements for missed hours.
Students adhere to the professional dress expected in the profession.
Students hear a variety of healthcare professional guest speakers.
