Students will design and make an laser cut skyline sign with a resin pour background using additional handheld shop power tools.
Students will practice detailed design sketching and daily project documentation in their student portfolios
Students will gain experience using the following shop equipment: the laser cutter, InkScape vector software and a handheld orbital sander.
Students will gain experience measuring precisely, mixing and pouring resin.
Sign Dimensions: Your sign must beat minimum 8" long but may be no longer than 12" in length. Height should be between 5" and 6"
Creative license: Select a vector skyline of your choice that has special significance to you.
Consider the individual for whom you are designing the sign? You? A friend or family member? Your end user will impact the style of your sign.
Choose the vector skyline image you would like to use to create your sign. The fewer fine details the better your sign will turnout.
Gather all needed images. Save all the images you will need for your sign in your MAKE folder in your Google Drive.
Open InkScape software. Watch the video below for steps of how to create your sign. After watching the video in its entirety, watch it again and follow step by step.
Design your sign. See the video below.
Work with a teacher to turn on and set up your sign file for cutting. Your skyline file should be saved in your MAKE file in Google Drive. Open the .pdf file on the laptop that runs the laser. Position the laser over your piece of wood for cutting.
Cut the skyline.
