Students will gain experience using the following shop equipment: the laser cutter and Ink Scape vector software.
Sign Dimensions: Your sign must be either 4" or 6" in length. You may have more creativity with the height of your sign but the max height is 8".
Creative license: Sign image may be either raster engraved or vector engraved into the acrylic. The image must be school appropriate.
Consider the individual for whom you are designing the sign? Young child? School age child? Teenage or adult? Older adult? Your end user will impact the style of your sign. Additionally, your user will impact the sort of image or collection of images you choose for the sign.
Choose the image you would like to use to create your sign. You also might find it fun to create a collage of images for your sign.
Gather all needed images. Save all the images you will need for your sign in your MAKE folder in your Google Drive.
Open InkScape software. Watch the video below for steps of how to create your sign. After watching the video in its entirety, watch it again and follow step by step.
Design your sign. See the video below.
Do you have the photos, screenshots, etc. required saved in your MAKE folder? If not, do that now.
Take some time to update your project page.
Once your base layers are cut they should look like the picture below.

Watch the video for directions on adding a cut line (vector line) to your LED sign in Inkscape. Work with a teacher to turn on and set up your sign file for cutting. Your sign file should be saved in your MAKE file in Google Drive. Open the .pdf file on the laptop that runs the laser. Position the laser over the acrylic for cutting.
Cut the sign.
Take SCREENSHOT of design in Inkscape.
Upload screenshot to LED SIGN folder in MAKE folder. (use this for your website)
SAVE AS PDF onto computer.
