IConnecT - 2020

" Cheers! As we have managed to thrive through these difficult times! My name is Seakmeng, a Junior CS student. Currently, I am working with Paragon International University as a Backend Developer. I joined the program last semester.

I would say that IConnecT is a real game changer. Back then, I was super excited to take the risk and pave the path towards this new course being offered. To be able to convert your hard work in the workplace into an academic credit means so much. In my opinion, studying theories is a good thing, but an internship plays a great role in the process. Previously, I had to work extra hard to catch up with the required curriculum credits while working outside school. I believe this course will provide that exact opportunity for us to get real job experience without having to worry about earning academic credits.

" As an ICT student, it is very difficult to grasp the concept of how everything works in a real-world. As it turns out, the work environment and day-to-day tasks are vastly different from what we have learned from textbooks or online courses. I always wonder what professional software engineers do which sets them apart from amateur programmers like me. This is what inspired me to find internship opportunities, and eventually become a part of IConnecT.

Being in the program gives me a brand new insight on working in a professional environment with other people. Communication is definitely a key factor to make any project successful. As I become well acquainted with the team, it is no longer a hassle to ask questions and share opinions. As a result, it is a lot easier to understand project requirements and meet expectations.

Moreover, I have also acquired various new skills, both technical-wise and non-technical wise. Besides the technical skills, I have gotten better at time management, work-life balance, confidence, and leadership."

" My IConnecT experience has been great. I have acquired a lot of new ideas and knowledge. Apart from that, I also came across numerous obstacles along the way which helped me grow. In this special course, I was required to write weekly reports undertaken in the workplace. It may seem daunting at first, but it was actually one of things that mold me to become a better version of myself. While writing the report, I have time to ponder and reflect upon the tasks that I’ve completed. It provides valuable chances to think of the approaches that I have taken in order to accomplish tasks at hand, or patch up issues that came up.

Personally, I think that the IConnecT program is a game changer. I would say the things and experiences that it offers are one of the greatest things that I have come across with. "

" I have to say that the best decision I have made so far in my life is applying for an internship and joining IConnecT, it definitely is a game changer. I used to find it more comfortable working alone and know nothing about teamwork. When I became part of the program, I was able to communicate well in a team, and this has changed my life.

I started to realize that in a big company, an extensive IT system could not function properly if it is done by one single person. It requires a team, a group of people who have the same vision in order to make it greater and better. As the quote said: “If you want to go faster, you go alone; but if you want to go far, then you're gonna need a team”. In addition, when I started to realize how important collaboration is, my team and I have developed a bond of brotherhood as we have gone through good times and tough times together.

Lastly, I hope this could be a message to all the next challengers who are willing to try hard in order to reach success in their life. "
