CE 321-SurveyingDepartment of Civil Engineering's junior practiced setting up and calibrating the total station at the Paragon parking lots. Total Station machine could possibly deliver an accurate result of the horizontal and slope distance from the machine to the particular point, plus elevation. It also provides the difference in elevation between the BM (where the machine stands) and that specific point. Moreover, the total station machine also provides the angle of the point respectively to the north direction. This hands-on experience was invaluable for developing skills in accurate site data collection, which is crucial for establishing reliable reference points for upcoming construction and surveying projects.

The leveling process was conducted at the survey site at Lion Park near the 7 Makara Flyover Bridge, aimed at transferring and verifying elevations across the area. The initial location was established at a stable and accessible location to serve as the primary reference point. Then the second step involved setting up the Auto-Level machine at a chosen position to ensure clear lines of sight and accurate measurement. Backsight readings were taken from the benchmark, followed by intermediate sights at critical points to capture elevation changes. Foresight measurements were then used to transfer elevations to new instrument stations, ensuring continuity and accuracy.

After presenting their construction methods, design concepts, and overcoming various challenges, they subjected their bridges to the ultimate test using our state-of-the-art Universal Testing Machine to measure flexural strength. 💪🏗
