Due to the impact of the COVID-19 in Cambodia, the Ministry of Education in Cambodia issued a temporary close down of all education in every sector in Cambodia to slow down and cease the spread of the COVID-19 among the youth in Cambodia. Among them, Paragon International University were also abided by the instruction of the Ministry and practice the online learning system instead of the physical classroom.
In this case, all the events inside Paragon International University were suspended to follow the COVID safety procedures from the ministry while switching its platform to fully online learning mode. The Career Fair 2019 – 2020 also had to be suspended from the physical event due to the risk of the spreading disease.
However, to tackle this, the agenda of the whole Career Fair had to switched from the physical event to an online event. The Career Center Team in 2019 – 2020 led by Ms. Sheue LI NG and Mr. Bunly Ek had to shift the whole event into E-Career Fair in which is done fully online through the Zoom Video Conferencing platform.
Initially, the plan of the E-Career Fair 2019 – 2020 was a fully day event which divided the into 3 main video conferencing platform which are specialized in different faculty. One Zoom was for the Faculty of Engineering, One Zoom was for the Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies, and One Zoom was for the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. These three Zoom faculties was to commence at the same period from 9 AM to 12 PM on 29th May 2020 with companies presenting their introduction, goal and future aims to attract the students. Then in the afternoon of the same day, the plan for the E-Career Fair 2019 – 2020 was to have each company interact with students individually through their individual google classroom to discuss and also interview if possible. But despite this planning, due to the insufficient amount of company join the program, the career team had to improvise once more in order for the event to be held.
The E-Career Fair was then shaped into a combination of cooperation between the Office of Student Services Career Center and the Marketing Office under the “Ask ParagonU” information sharing session. In this information session, companies were put into a live Zoom video conference.
In the live session, there was 4 big companies, such as Smart, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, KPMG and Teach for Cambodia. The discussion started with every companies/ organization introducing their background and what their company’s goal and aim towards the Cambodia’s society ranging from what they support to what they are contributing back to the community. For example, Konrad Adenauer has involved ParagonIU’s student in its programs and seminars every year and has helped to support democracy as well as train the next generation of youth to know the value of political participation as well as the education in the research field.
The live session went on about 1 hour 36 minutes with many participations from the students and also from the public in which the combination of viewers was 6 600 people who watched the live session; and on 27th August, 2020, the number of viewers were 7 200 people.
Despite having a huge turn in the Career Fair 2019 – 2020, the Career Center with Marketing Office have done a successful job in bringing our partnered together with our students to strengthen the partnership as well as extending our students ideas towards the working world.
