Course Description and Outline:
Courses in Public Academy for Performing Arts’ Visual Arts department are based on National and State standards for Visual Art. This includes: art making, art analysis, art appreciation, and art history. The Elements of Art and the Principles of Design will be the building blocks of student learning. Artists will create original art, master skills, take risks, develop a global awareness of art-making, use problem-solving skills and reflect on the artwork of others, as well as their own. Students will deepen their vocabulary skills and critical thinking skills. Visual arts courses will prepare students to pursue their passions and talents in the many opportunities in the vocation of Visual Arts.
Students will strive towards:
Developing increasingly sophisticated creative strategies, skills, and habits of mind through artistic practices.
Acquiring increasing complex procedural knowledge, skill, and craftsmanship in art-making.
Developing more sophisticated aesthetic judgment about the meaning and purpose of visual art.
Forming a broader knowledge and understanding of our rich and diverse historical and cultural heritage through art.
