Save the Kiwi Month takes place annually in October every year.
The Kiwi is a native bird of New Zealand. It is also the national bird of New Zealand, as it can only be found in Aotearoa! Strangely, it possesses many characteristics more typical of a mammal than a bird. Here are some Kiwi facts for your class:
It is the only bird in the world with nostrils at the end of its beak.
The most potent sense of the Kiwi is its sense of smell.
A Kiwi has whiskers like a cat.
Kiwis are nocturnal - they prefer to come out at night!
Kiwis love to eat insects, grubs, native plants, and fruits that have fallen from the treetops.
Kiwis have a lifespan of 25-50 years
