✍️ Purpose and structure -
WALT -
Write a story (narrative) that entertains, informs, or teaches a message.
Plan and structure a story with a clear beginning, middle, and ending.
Use a plot structure that includes a problem, build-up, climax, and resolution.
Create a strong hook or opening that captures the reader's attention.
Write a conclusion that leaves the reader thinking or feeling something.
WALT -
Create characters that feel real by describing their actions, thoughts, and dialogue.
Show how characters change or learn something by the end of the story.
Describe the setting so readers can imagine the place, time, and atmosphere.
Use show, don’t tell to reveal feelings and situations.
WALT -
Choose powerful verbs, adjectives, and nouns to create mood and detail.
Use figurative language (like similes, metaphors, and personification) to bring the story to life.
Use dialogue correctly to show what characters are thinking or feeling.
Vary sentence beginnings and lengths to make writing more interesting.
Use tense (past, present, or future) consistently throughout the story.
WALT -
Generate and develop original ideas based on imagination, experiences, or observations.
Build tension, excitement, or emotion to keep readers interested.
Link the story to a theme or message (e.g., courage, friendship, identity).
WALT -
Revise and edit our writing to improve vocabulary, structure, and flow.
Proofread for punctuation, spelling, and grammar errors.
Give and receive peer feedback using success criteria.
Publish our stories in a way that engages the audience (e.g., digitally, illustrated, or performed).
