Dear Panyaden Community,
I hope you are all well.
As Panyaden teachers prepare to spend 5 days at our annual silent meditation retreat with our Spiritual Advisor, Phra Ajahn Jiew, we would like to share some Dhamma with you and extend an invitation to come together and practice.
Firstly, we would like to share the recording of the Dhamma Talk given by Ajahn Jayasaro on Friday, 26 September. You can listen to it here. You can also read the transcripts of the English and Thai parts of the talk.
Secondly, we would like to warmly invite you to our One-Day Meditation Retreat at Panyaden on Saturday, 01 November, led by members of the Buddhist Education Committee. Please see the schedule here and sign up here if you would like to join for either half a day or the whole day.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to Kru Max at w.max@panyaden.ac.th if you have any questions.

Dear Parents,
You are warmly invited to our Secondary Arts Showcase, an exciting Art-in-Process event featuring the creative work and developing skills of our Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students.
This is a valuable opportunity to witness their creative journeys and their growth across Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts this Trimester 1.
Please note that all events are scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
The showcases reflect key learning objectives within each curriculum area:
Year 7 (Music): Fantasy World in Music
Students will share their journey through two experiences:
Instrument Petting Zoo & Rehearsal Demo: See students guide parents in instrument exploration or witness a live music class rehearsal.
Concert Performance: Both 7A (Day: bright and vibrant) and 7B (Night: dark and mysterious) will perform class pieces inspired by the fantasy theme, featuring solo and small group work.
Year 8 (Theatre): Realism and Character Development
Students will perform realistic moments of theatre focusing on deep psychological and physical character exploration. Their work is inspired by the themes of resilience, respect, and relationships.
Year 9 (Visual Arts): Visual Voice Self-Portraiture
The exhibition features self-portraits created using realistic and abstract styles across various media. This unit highlights their technical proficiency and conceptual mastery in communicating a personal message to the audience.
Your presence is essential as an engaged and supportive audience.
For the Year 7 Music and Year 8 Theatre Showcases: To maintain focus and performance integrity, entry and exit are strictly permitted only during transitions between performances.
We look forward to celebrating the expressive and collaborative growth of our students with you.
Regards,
Secondary Arts Team
From 29 September to 1 October, our students joined 113 young musicians from international schools across Chiang Mai for the 11th CNX Concert Band Festival, hosted at NIS. Over the course of three days, they rehearsed, learned from guest conductor Ajarn Chaipruck Mekara, and received expert coaching from members of the Chiang Mai Philharmonic Orchestra.
This annual festival is designed to support students in their early years of music learning, helping them build strong habits, confidence, and a lasting love of music. Watching our students grow as musicians while sharing this experience with peers from across the city was truly special.
The festival closed with a wonderful concert that blended music from different cultures and showcased not only technical skill but also heartfelt expression. Families, teachers, and friends left the Harmony Theatre inspired and proud of what our young musicians achieved together. Great work to all the students who took part in this memorable event!

For our Year 9 exit and entry points, we explored the natural progression from Interpretation into Renewal by having students reimagine classic Thai folklore in contemporary settings. Working in groups, students were each assigned one of eight traditional tales. They were assigned stories including The Golden Goby Fish (ปลาบู่ทอง), Lawichai and Kawee (หลวิชัย คาวี), Phra Aphai Mani: Escaping the Sea-Ogress (พระอภัยมณี ตอน หนีนางผีเสื้อสมุทร), and Nang Tani. The students then had to rework them for the modern world.
Their renewals ranged from humorous and unexpected to deeply creative: one group set their story in Cleveland, Ohio, while others introduced smartphones, self-driving cars, and modern social dynamics into ancient plots. Through this exercise, students experienced firsthand how interpretation can evolve into renewal, transforming familiar narratives into fresh reflections of today’s world.

Over the past few weeks, Year 7 students have been working on their Social Studies one-pagers to answer the essential question: Why Do Humans Rule the World? These one-pagers represented the culmination of their first unit of study, bringing together knowledge, understanding, and creativity.
To celebrate their effort and learning, the students and I organised a friendly one-pager competition with several categories. More than twenty students entered their work, showing thoughtful reflection and artistic design.
As part of the learning process, students also explored what it means to win and lose gracefully — to take pride in one’s work without arrogance and to accept disappointment as an opportunity for growth and renewed effort.
Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding work and effort — and a special congratulations to this year’s competition winners:
1. Most Creative One-Pager - April Y7B and Gallo Y7
3. Most Unique Personal Reflection - Prai Y7B
5. Most Insightful - Ellen Y7A and Kin Y7B
6. Best Overall One-Pager - Aiji Y7B
2. Most Detailed and Accurate Knowledge - Kevin Y7A
4. Best Use of Evidence - Kasper Y7A
