Welcome to Pangbourne's Geography Department page. Here you will find the programs of study for each year group and various links to extension material. This extension material is designed to be a base from which to jump from rather than an end point!
What can I be doing to get ahead in geography?
You must be reading round the subject. Read the news (proper news) and not just on a phone - every day - without fail. You should be a subscriber to 'The Week' and/or 'The National Geographic' or 'Geography'.
What do I need to do over the holidays?
You should take your text book home and consolidate notes on the topics you feel most uncomfortable with. You must read any set texts and the news (global issues, urban issues, trade and economic issues, America vs China issues, immigration issues, demographic issues .... every day!
READ READ READ. The geography courses in the new specifications are no longer a case of learning 10 case studies and regurgitating them in different formats. The exams are almost a general knowledge/ common sense test... It requires the application of the taught material to a broad range of different world contexts that students are unprepared for. Successful geography students must be immersed in critical analysis of the world around them through wide ranging reading and study EVERY DAY!
