ChatGPT and the Death of Trying

If you’ve spent more than half an hour in a public school, you have most definitely heard about artificial intelligence, or more specifically, ChatGPT. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot designed to do anything a person asks of it (within reason). From generating photos of dancing cows to doing advanced calculus to writing and humanizing an essay, the limit is microscopic. The issue with AI isn’t just its horrible impact on the environment (for that matter, read here: MIT article), but rather the sheer number of students who cannot complete an assignment without it.
While it’s a known fact that many teenagers don’t adore completing homework, the majority suck it up and get it done. But the introduction of ChatGPT, (and the fact that it remains unblocked on our school iPads), is driving more and more students to never apply themselves and truly learn. Essay due in an hour? “Write me a five paragraph essay about the Super-Conducting Supercollider.” Math homework you have no idea how to complete? Upload a photo and have a chat-bot do it. ChatGPT is killing creativity and intelligence in teenagers.
Aubrey’s Opinion on ChatGPT
With the simple and convenient nature of ChatGPT, I’ve noticed that no one cares anymore. Many classmates openly admit to utilizing it, despite being aware of its consequences. ChatGPT is contributing to a major decrease in student diligence, discipline, and motivation. Chat GPT is quite possibly one of the worst things that has happened to the public school system since the controversial dollar raise in lunch prices. My encouragement to you: develop honesty and integrity, gain diligence and discipline, and do your own assignments. It may not feel good at the moment, but I promise your hard work will pay off in the future. Learning and developing discipline now is much easier than developing it on a job-site or in challenging college courses.
