Week 1: Understanding the Data & Setting Baselines 

Focus: Deep dive into iReady Phonics diagnostic reports to understand student strengths and areas for growth.

PD Session: 60-75 minutes

Introduction (10 min): Welcome, review SMART goal, and establish the "why" behind data-driven phonics instruction (connection to reading foundational skills). 

iReady Phonics Diagnostic Overview (15 min): Explain the iReady Phonics domain and its subdomains (ex. phonological awareness, phonics, high-frequency words). Model how to navigate and interpret the "Diagnostic Results" and "Instructional Grouping" reports for the Phonics domain. 

Data Analysis Protocol (20 min): Introduce a simple data analysis protocol. Model a "think-aloud" process using anonymized sample student data to identify patterns, common misconceptions, and specific phonics subdomains where students need support. 

Collaborative Data Dive (20-30 min): Teachers work in small groups (ex. by grade level or common student needs) to begin analyzing their own class iReady Phonics diagnostic data.

• "What initial observations do you have about your class's performance in the Phonics domain?" 

• "Are there any particular phonics subdomains where a significant number of your students are struggling?" 

• "What questions does this data raise for you about your students' foundational reading skills?" 

Teacher Action Step (Weekly Focus): By the end of the week, each teacher will independently analyze their class's iReady Phonics diagnostic data and identify 3-5 students who are significantly below proficiency in a specific phonics subdomain. They will note the specific subdomain(s) for each student. 

Progress Monitoring (Quantitative Look-Fors): Teachers submit a brief digital summary (ex. via a shared document or form) by end of week, outlining: The specific phonics subdomain(s) they are focusing on for their class. The number of students identified as below proficiency in that subdomain. Teachers will use the iReady Tracking resources. 

iReady Reports: Review iReady Phonics usage reports for baseline data for the week.
