I am Lumarid Burgos -Rivera, I have been a middle school counselor for five years and I was a former Civics and Spanish educator for ten years. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with my master degree in School Counseling. My goal as school counselor is to support and empower students to reach their goals while they learn strategies to self-care and self-advocate to become agents of change in our community. I work as the Middle School Counselor and ESOL Contact. in TCS.

We use the classroom as a counseling opportunity of a common topic. Common topics could be Transition from Elementary to Middle School, Study Skills, Critical Thinking, Careers's Exploration, Anti-Bullying, Making Decision Process, and may more.

The purpose of the small group counseling is to meet students' needs they have in common in a safety environment .Small group counseling provides a safe setting where children, along with their peers, can increase their self awareness and improve their cooperation and communication skills. Some group topics are : Academic Performance, Drug Abuse, Study Skills, Grief and others. (Students Success Skills, Self-care, Grief Support and others

We offer Individual Counseling to students and parents that request it. In these sessions the focus is in the individual. It is about his or her concerns, issues, and goals. It involves one-on-one dialogues to establish a goal and an action plan. The theory I use in my office is Solution Focus Approach. There are three main topics in Individual Counseling: Academic, Social/Emotional and School Related Services.

Sometimes we need to provide consultation to teachers, parents, administrators and students. In this process the counselor could use different theories to help the consultant establish a plan to work with a third party. This process does not need various days but it cant be done in few minutes either.
