While we do not encourage phones and smartwatches to be brought to school, cell phones and smartwatches that are brought to school by upper elementary students will be collected by teachers each day.
All upper elementary students are given a Google account and access to an iPad. Some classrooms send the iPads home with students daily, while others use the iPads exclusively at school. Our upper elementary technology program is designed to promote responsible and balanced technology use. In an increasingly digital world, we believe it is essential to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate technology in a healthy and mindful way. We have developed a Student Tech Use Agreement that outlines the expectations for technology use at Paideia, including the use of school iPads and school-issued Google accounts. This agreement aims to ensure that technology is utilized for educational purposes and fosters a positive learning environment. This agreement is a vital step towards fostering responsible tech habits.
We are confident that by working together as a community, we can help our students develop a healthy relationship with technology that empowers them to thrive both academically and personally. We value your partnership in this endeavor. During the 24-25 school year, we offered a webinar on Elementary Technology. If you would like to watch the webinar, you can access it here.
We encourage you to establish a Home Technology Contract with any child that is regularly using technology devices. This contract could provide guidelines for technology use at home, helping to strike a balance between screen time, outdoor activities, and family interactions. We believe that involving families in this endeavor will reinforce the importance of responsible technology use and create a supportive environment for our students. Sample contracts can be found here and here.
If limiting screen time on personal devices is something that is needed in your home, we recommend using Apple Screentime, Aura, Brick, or Analog.
Information on this and our use of Google accounts in the upper elementary, can be found here.
While tech tools vary from classroom to classroom, many of the widely used programs and platforms are listed here.
