The purpose of Homeroom and 9th Grade Academy is to have a consistent person to check in on students' overall progress, and be a teacher-level point of contact for anything our students may need. ALL students have 15 minute daily check ins with this teacher, as well as 1, 45-minute session per week to work with the Homeroom teachers and cohorts.
Attending these meetings is one of the best things students can do to ensure they are successful and following the Core Four skills!

Attendance
💡Keep your Google Calendar Open every Day - it will give you pop up notifications when you have a live class coming up
💡Set an alarm on your phone / Siri / Alexa / alarm clock to wake up before 7:30 on a school day
💡Set up additional alarms on your phone / Siri / Alexa / alarm clock for your live class times
💡Add a reminder to your daily to do list or calendar to mark attendance in Infinite Campus
Organization
💡Make daily to-do lists to keep track of the lessons you need to complete vs. the ones you’ve completed
💡Keep your school supplies and workstation in one place that is as free from distractions as possible
💡Set up your second monitor - it will help you organize your digital space while you work through your lessons.
💡Try to create a weekly plan or visual schedule to get into a routine of when you work on coursework for each class you are taking.
Self Advocacy
💡Make and keep a list of your teachers names and contact information, as well as your counselor’s name and contact information
💡Use chat or email to message your teachers as soon as you have questions on an assignment (don’t wait!)
💡Attend live class, as you will often have flexible time to ask questions and get help from your teacher
💡Go to study hall as an additional space to ask for help.
Working Independently:
💡Find your Why - what motivates you? Why is it important for you to do well in your classes? Post that reason somewhere that you will see it everyday as a reminder for what you’re working towards.
💡 Take school and course orientations seriously, and utilize the tips and resources provided. They are all there to support you!
💡 Read directions! Often, everything you will need to complete a lesson or assignment is built into your Schoology lessons. Read through each step, and follow the directions provided by your teachers for how to use each resource. In short, do NOT scroll to the bottom of every lesson to just do the last part!
