Lawyer Vanessa Otero started a fake news flame war by posting this info-graphic about news sources on Facebook. More information about this chart can be found here.
As you are gathering and reading sources for AT Government assignments, you should be actively and consistently investigating the backgrounds, biases, and qualifications of the authors of these sources. In one or two sentences, you should be able to explain who an author is and his or her political position. You should also be able to explain what the author’s specific intension is in writing the source. Is she countering opinions expressed by her opponents? Is he analyzing a recent event or purposing a solution to political problem? The more you understand a source’s purpose and author, the better you will be able to use it in your writing.
Use this graphic organizer to think about the bias AND complexity of your sources.
